Anyone know who is running for office?
Please, no ex-mayors!
time for new blood
those who had a chance and did nothing.
Should seriously consider giving someone else a try!
hmmm... Lets see, that narrows down the gene pool a bit???
When I think of the current lot occupying Town Hall, I also think of Ross Perot when he said the problem with Politicians is that they think by talking about some thing, they think they actually are doing some thing. Of course I paraphrase Mr. Perot. Of all the talk about “improving Port Deposit“ It seems the main product from Town Hall is Hot Air and a lot of it. This is in Stark contrast to Individual’s in this Town who actually are doing some thing to improve it. A certain sore spot area of north main street is starting to look pretty nice now and it seems to me that it was Bailey and Harbough who got it done, not politicians but individuals who have a vested interest in this town. I have no doubt that various town officials who sat on various boards and committees some how subscribe to the nonsensical idea that they "helped". If this be true lets talk about Rocks. The two mentioned individuals at their effort and expense cleaned up another sore spot at marina south to gain access to stone they had purchased. Note the Town if self had done zip about this eye sore. As normal an “issue” developed, this time it was ownership of some of the stone. The hot air which blew from town hall was that some of the stone was the “Towns” and had to be used for public good. It’s my guess that the towns “stone” will still be laying unused and half buried again in five years instead of in productive use, just one more example of good work from our elected officials.
I hope that come this election we can put some people in who realize that the best way to “improve Port Deposit” is to stay out of the way of those who actually are. And one last thing least panties get in a bind towards Bailey and Harbough, I have nothing, zip, nada to do with either individual, I’m just a casual observer noticing who is actually improving Port Deposit.

Take the stone for example
there was more!
Two Politicians’ had a pee pee match.. about the High street stone that was put in the quarry for lack of a better place to store I guess?
Well one complains to the other about the Quarry looking junky with all those piles
(like they really care about the quarry’s appearance – an yes it is a quarry –duh!)
So the man in charge at Town Hall
is forced (by council) to pay someone to haul away the est.20-30 truck loads of stone and mixed dirt
go figure!
It was no issue then to pay someone to take the cut Granite away.
What were they thinking then?
And how can they complain now?
Some are just worm tongued politicians
Personally,
EGO sum defessus of Imbibo , operor nusquam , toothless quod rutilus caput capitis Politicians.

Port Deposit's Towns Hall to be heated with Political Hot Air!
Those with a proven record of Hot Air appear to be running for office again!
That may be fine for the winter months and to HEAT up the upcoming election with promises.
Not answered though is how things will be cooled in summer months. Though as one has suggested. "If we just sit and do nothing during those times... then there will be no hot air and we can just leave early it is just that simple!"
More to follow.
(as holding nose- some Hot Air needs breath mints -whew)
I think the town should sell the rest of the municipal parking lot to tomes landing like the idiots they are what do you think?
the town should be run by town official not wanna be town officials like ex "statepoliceman" who want to run around town trying to force things there way because they think i'm soandso and i demand it because that's the way it is.I want it now,how much can i get where can i get it,as far as i'm concerned they need to mind their own business and quit screwing the town.Acually they think buying up the whole town gives them rights to whatever they want. right or wrong. Any comments?
sounds like someone is talking about our town bully?
old saying about chewing on things and talking with your mouth open
be careful not to choke.
the town is not for sale, property is. all have to play to the rules. regardless of what some have they either have to sit on it - very costly. rent it -rules on splitting up homes are in place so only one tenant per home or sell it- which nothing is moving.
so those who bite off more than they can chew may be in for a long time.
port deposit still has a bad rep from years back, so top dollar is not around the corner.
-just a go slow, take it easy opinion.
Does anyone know who is running for office?
you hear that the lady in zoning is, she would be a good person for the mayors job. She is nice and has personality.
I just cannot vote for those who alrady hasd a chance and did not know how to get things done.
The current mayor said several month ago he was not running and did not think he could get anything done in the time he has left. it must be difficult job.
who is Amicus Publicus?
RE: Elections and Ex-State Police Man.
Dear Sir:
As far as we can tell this up coming election may prove rather fallow, as it seems that no new candidates have thrown hats in the ring, the prospects of good old fashion mud slinging seem most limited. The one positive possibility is the Mayoral race as it does appear that Mr. Rob Flayhart will run again, going head to head with Ms. Kerry Abrams. However, we fear that this will fall far short of the entertainment value that a Flayhart vs. Tome II would have offered. As Mr. Wayne Tome has moved on to bigger and better things or mucking them up as the case may be. Hopefully there will be some positive developments on this front and the Town may find entertainment in another acrimonious election.
In reference to The Ex State Police Man. We reply that some times you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. In the case of the Ex State Police Man when eggs are broken, in fact an omelet is made. With “Town Officials” when eggs are broken, you just end up with broken eggs.
I am your humble servant,

It takes courage to run for office.
Mrs. Abrabrams is a good person, but truly not a leader.
It would be better for the balance of the council if she stayed there.
Sadly she will not listen to advice so here it is as sweet as can be
Her stubbornness is better suited to put a check on the wilder council members.
If elected Mayor I fear as before here term will again be non-noteworthy.
politely, she doesn't have the stones? to get things done.
Really not more much to say.
Kerry, please don't mess up the balance!
That is Abrams, not Abrabram
you all be nice.
I would much prefer Walter Abrams and Kim Flayhart to run.
I respect both and actually would have a had time choosing. (say what you may about them they are both doers)
The other career politicans might take a vacation. Hey go to Disney World since you helped to keep this place a Mickey Mouse type of town.
-goofy
+ one for Kim she is very thorough
but unforunately not running
Who is running for the council?
I give up on all Mayors.
They never seem to be able to get things done. Unless the council has unity.
The Mayors positions is a thanksless Job. good Luck to whomever gets it.
The Council though needs cohesion
and a good adminstator to get things done.
That to me is the issue.
ex-policeman?
After retiring most need therapy to get back to reality
Would any Candidate care to offer their comments?
Would be nice to hear why I should vote for them.
I think too, the Town Admistrator should run for office. Accountability we had some in the past who were very questionable.
We will ask all candidates to submit content on why they want to run for office and post their reply.

Re: Comments from the Candidates
Dear Sir:
As the winter has been long and the entertainments few, we would normally look forward with mischievous glee to written statements from the candidates for public office. Unfortunately, as of late, we have been hit with a troublesome bout of discretion and feel in all good conscience that we must offer the following advice to said candidates: better to remain silent and be thought the fool than to speak and remove all doubt. That having been said, we expect as normal all good council and advice to be ignored and written statements submitted. The better angels of our nature satisfied we can now with clear conscience look forward to a few good laughs.
I am your humble servant,
Amicus Publicus
The March 18th comment "I think too, the Town Admistrator should run for office. Accountability we had some in the past who were very questionable." Are you suggesting that the Town Administrator would have to be a Port Deposit proper Resident? Do you have anyone in mind?
me too, I have found that many adminstrators in the past are too kissy to select elected council memebers to just keep their job.
When it is to the people they need to truly answer too.
Small town politics.
Hard to find someone local in town to do this. It make more sense since living here would make some do things differently
Administators should be elected from a pool of anyone qualified.
Feet to the fire! Like any job
You are hired to do a job and let go or contract not renewed if you don't.
Town Administrators,
First off, I am not referring to the current person, only to the process that need adjusting
there is too much cronyism – as well the accountability is totally closed door.
No, I do not think that only local can run, - it is a paying job, but it needs a local touch to reflect the real needs of this town
not just office skills
Who locally could do the job? I can think of several. People who are can do.
You can leave the secretary skills to those who can type.
We need someone who walks the town daily that alone would make the biggest difference.
Since every one is having their say
For Mayor... I would endorse
and vote for Laura Luongo any day of the week. She is bright, with great people skills. Very professional as well she seems to get things done with consensus.
Why doesn't she run?
who knows...
I know that many people also think that she could do a great job.
Truthfully I will write her name in as the others are not worthy of consideration this time.
I am tired of the same ole same ole local career political types..
Please retire Rob and Kerry and let other take the reigns.
Rob,
How about making some money in the next four by focusing on your real job, your are good and deserve a career break. You are a leader, but need to lead your company to success.
Kerry,
Please take a break, you are said to be a great teacher- the children like you, but a leader you are not.. and that is nothing to be sad about. Though it does take courage to run as someone has stated somewhere on here. Even if you win, --you really won't -- because your heart is really not in it, It shows. You look tired of it all. Don't lie to yourself
you have put in your time already.
Four more years?
Nope not by my vote!
harold for mayor?
make me puke.
Harold for mayor?
His nephew... well that is a different story, they do not even seem related.
heard that only repeat are running.
so i guess they have not reason to promise anything new.
Told,
Rob Flayhart - for mayor
Kerry Abrams - for mayor
Brian Lafond - for council
John Klisavage - for council
are running for office
all are in office now.
evidently no one new is interested in being part of the process.
so what is there to talk about since we know what they are about.
but with Kerry Abrams running for mayor shouldn't that leave a council seat open?
bad brad for mayor
Laura Luongo name has been mentioned here? She is or isn't running?
She would be a refreshing change from what we have.
Laura if you are reading this,
you could easily win if you are not in this race.
Brad Harbold will be Mayor someday
if he chooses.
Anyone who has truly met him and heard him speak knows that he is a lucky guy to be so wise at such a young age.
He has a smart wife too.
Together they make a good looking couple.
brad talks thru the same thing his unlce talks thru #$@%$##@*^
If someone did the math, I believe that we have more murders (or suspicious deaths including drug overdoses) per capita in Port Deposit than any other town in the United States. Where is our Rudy Giuliani that will "clean up" the town? We do not live in "Mayberry" as this website would lead you to believe.
The last death you refer was part of a long term abusive relationship.
This sad happening is not confined to our little hamlet.
There are many in high places throughout our county that their wives seek shelter from abuse.
Though I do not disagree with your conclusion --part of it is related to those who do not own their own property and the cycle of abuse on all levels
From an Election standpoint
We need to cleanup our act and sweep the town so that those who want to invest or own will displace the renters who in many cases are living hand to mouth.
Not much hope, other than we offer a less expensive place to hang their hat.
Starting with the Front Desk at town Hall -- we need to encourage growth and business to break this cycle-- that is left over from the Bainbridge days and the remnants of Hurricane Agnes where the town could have been bought for a song... and some did just do that.
Converting large homes to apartments to meet mortgage and repair bills...
the price of paradise?
Mayberry is still is... though...
it takes everyone to clean their sidewalks to keep it that way
Convincing arguments for Otis have been made. But will he qualify?
In the 1986 television movie "Return to Mayberry", it was revealed that Otis was now completely sober and was currently employed as the town's ice cream man.
Brad is not his uncle. (thank god)
but he will never be mayor while the other is still in town either. that cop mentality is horrible.
Pit bulls and ex-cops are very similar
lets get back to the election.
has anyone set any goals?
I listened to several of them running for re-election. discuss (in their own word) how they couldn't get anything done until this election passes since they didn't have council support..
they made themselves into lame ducks over 5 months ago - go figure?
nice image on our Town Seal-
the powerful and adventerous River Arks of yester-year mixed in with the lame duck do-nothings of today
It's official, Rob has just pulled out of the Mayoral Election. God bless us all.
what is there to promise since there is no competition.
We are doomed
I do not normally care about the Mayoral election, But with Rob not running we may be doomed.
He may not be Politician, he is a people person -a good man.
Who cares about whether things get resolved outside of town hall… they get resolved, beside nothing can get real approval except at town meetings.
I am sorry the other current candidate would cause me to not vote for mayor. I will leave that section blank.
I would however vote for Cheryl Griffin – if she would run.
Or Brian Lafond. I go by their actions not by their promises.
He should immediately take the reigns and do it.
That is about it.

RE: Time for a new form of Government?
Dear Sir:
It would seem perhaps, that democracy is not in a functional state within our humble hamlet. Other than former Soviet bloc nations, when in fact they were Soviet bloc nations and Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, most governments do offer their citizens more than one candidate for any given office. Our town, not to be out done by these formerly mentioned paragons of enlightened governance, can not even offer sufficient candidates to fill all positions. In light of this we believe that the time has come for our town to consider other forms of government. We further suggest an absolute and heretical Monarchy. This, of course, raises the question of who to crown King/Queen of Port Deposit. After much consideration it is our belief that our town would be nobly served by His Royal Majesty Otis the 1st, or if you prefer in the Roman style as we do, Emperor Otious Maximus. As for disposition of present elected officials we could no doubt find for them positions within King Otis’s court. One position most would find themselves qualified is “Keeper of the Stool”, of course the stool we refer to is one at the Winchester.
I am your humble servant,
Amicus Publicus
It is unfortunate that the noble efforts of many are not recognized until too late.
Then what are we stuck with?
the stick-in-the-mud group.
appropriate too since there is enough of it still in our unpaved parking lots.
So wrong,
rumor has it that we may be losing Rob and Kim in town.
(just shaking my head.)
So from what is written here
There isn't even enough people who want to run for office?
Cannot run if you do not live in town that leaves many who may make a difference out.
If so, then why not just cancel the darn election and save some money?
It is not like you can change or influence the outcome with your votes I guess.
With the money saved I guess a cheap tiara could be bought for someone.
a real mayoral canidate RICHARD JONES!
have a short list of my favorites
Glen Longacre... very reasoned and fair man
Laura Luongo... Listened to her in zoning -very smart and personable
Brian Lafond - Good person straight shooter.
Mike Lipka The best person I have ever met in town! period
Gets things done!
Someone mentioned Cheryl Griffin
I like her a nice and fair lady
Linda Read. - Who could not vote for her?
Rose Hicks - just darn smart great person. gets things done too
Kim Flayhart - though she probably would laugh she is someone I would vote for hands down -- proven successful person
those are my favorite for getting the job done!
Someone who had a chance.
It is hard to understand how someone could have another business in another town and be so anti-business in their own town?
You teamed up with an old racial fart too! (can I say fart? fart fart fart)
We need more businesses than restaurants here.
But that thing called parking
became an issue only when a small lobby (of you know see above) wanted to stop other businesses that could serve liquor from opening.
No parking - then they cannot open?
Their plan didn't work but...
because it was selfish
Being not the brightest group
and obviously short-sighted
other now businesses suffer because of this.
I would vote for anyone who openly says enough of stopping growth due to lack of parking.
It is a boldface lie!
Without Rob in the race you can see how the comments have died down
Guilt?
Or did they get their way by trying to humiliate him out of the race
(no one deserves that kind of grief for a non-paying job)
Either way tomorrow is another day and issue remain.
we need to work together with compromise.
If more people do not run that does not stop the need for government or to address our issues

Please sir,
Two notes – now three notations
One
Please post a section for general Comments.
Two
and if possible...
A section for our Port Deposit Muse
Amicus Publicus.
The essence of this vein of posts is rich with wisdom and reasoned humor.
So much so that I look forward to what will be written next.
Let hope that we have not scene the last of this sort of comment.

ps.. I suggest too, that those who are serious about posting adopt a moniker that enables one to see a common thread in posts.
Some of the anonymous posts remind one of Guerilla warfare where you cannot see your enemy.
Though this is also acceptable posting fro a blog, I personally ignore this type of post, as most if is a cheap hit and run.
Those who have valid points should not be afraid to post some sort of moniker or nom deplume (for you Yanks that is a pseudonym)
Use your dogs name who cares just some tag as to which personality you are using today...
:)
Worse lead up to an election I have ever NOT witnessed!
Is anyone sure that they have not canceled it?
