Since curently there is a lack of Candidates to fill the ballots
and there appears to be no competitive races
So, why are you NOT running for office?
Too, maybe you believe that all is well and this is ok.
Have your say.
Please keep it civil and constructive.

Why?
Not enough tolerance.
I remember the late councilman (whom cannot speak for himself, so if the shoe fits someone can wear it)
whom often complained of being left out of meetings or finding out that some were meeting on at topic too late (outside of the regular meeting of course), as well a general atmosphere of some people (town members) just not being liked which caused foot-dragging.
And Yes this person Drank at the local pub - but diet soda only!
The long and short, I would not run unless a there was a mandate to make allot of the things in the background or behind close doors more transparent.
This is not a Flayhart or Abrahms thing.
There appears to be a general culture of malaise.
Good intentioned people over their heads trying to solve and resolve issues by meeting a couple times a month.
That is why the same issue takes months to settle if at all, and those with spirit just get worn out
why deal with it.

tolerance?
I say who needs the aggrevation and those second guessing your "noble" motives
We are a small town forgiveness for error and humananess must be
else we will self-destruct.
I forgive all- can you?
Too bad we need a flood to level all to the same plane.
I personally want to thank the current council for making the Jetty come to be.
And to Bill Eldrid whreever he may be for his efforts.
It is beautiful
I cannot wait to walk on it.
It make me proud!

I am not worthy of such an honor
Why am I not running? Because I am afraid that I would tell most of the bunch to go take a hike – not good politics
Here is what I want to see done in the next year much less the next four:
Tell the State Highway Administration to take a hike. We do not want them in our town – unless they get serious and address problems that they have allowed to happen.
They have raised our roads and caused houses to be under the road.
They have allowed large stone trucks to pass and crack our Main Street, our infrastructure plumbing and in some cases shake our homes.
They refuse to get serious and install needed pedestrian crosswalks or stop signs to slow down traffic.
They are not our friend they are a selfish self-serving state agency that has greatly affected the quality of life for in our town.
I personally have had enough!
Tell the State Police to ticket themselves and not use our town as a highway when they are late for work,
Tell the State Police that Pass to obey the laws and stop for the several Pedestrian crosswalks that we have – BECAUSE IT IS THE LAW when someone is standing there waiting to cross.
Tell the State Police to treat our citizens with respect, not all are bad guys. I wish I knew there mothers I would say a few things about some of these wet behind the ear –kid cops.
I personally have had enough!
Tell the Railroad to become a good neighbor, have them paint and fix up their property.
Tell the railroad that they are not allowed to spray defoliant the causes everything in its path to look like scorched earth – at least not in town limits.
They have made the town look horrible for years by there omnipresent tracks and lack of maintenance
We can do something. If we unite and stick together
I personally have had enough!
The town Parking issue was basically created in 1994 by the streetscape, a great idea if you had side streets with parking I supposes
but we are a historic Pedestrian oriented town. –We all walk to the post office to eat
The sidewalk ate up at least 10-12 spaces or more in town center.
We do not have a parking problem, we have a PARKING LOT problem.
The town has the ability to smooth as well as to re-stone lots but the town has allowed the mud and ruts to persist
causing damage to cars and to homes with the soil and dirt that is tracked in.
We partially look like a tired town due to the condition of the parking lots.
The council squabbling, mainly due to the guy with the voodoo hand emblem (did anyone ever find what was up with that?)
that caused four years to be wasted – and the rest of the council too is guilty for letting him run amok.
You guys are weak! Stand up to him!
I personally have had enough!
And that state girl MaryAnn Something?, she is mistaken to stop some from paving. This is a tax paying town to the state.
We are limited in our spaces that will not change. Out parking lots look horrible despicable
The stance that we have to have drainage is half-baked. Let her live here and park her vehicle and make the same determination
I personally have had enough!
The jetty by the way looks great!
and was loaded with people today
that is good
Other than that t his current council has had other limited successes but on points that affect the greater quality of life in this town is has failed miserably. The council has become impotent. This is discouraging too to many
Cases in point recap ,
Turning down a coffee shop due to lack of parking?
What is up with that?
Pedestrian Crosswalks? Hello the police do not even stop for those crossing
Parking zoning ordinance stopping businesses opening --This is not seriously being addressed and is the bane of most in
The idiotic change in town Zoning that was implemented by the Johnnie-come-lately(s)
that is so full of errors as well causes everything to be in question – still not begin seriously addressed
This is because whomever implemented it did not know the town and its history.
And what has been done on these outstanding issues?
Nut-a-thing
I personally have had enough with this Council – all but two of them
Now the Mayors One legged race
I cannot vote like many for the current candidate for Mayor.
–Read the writing and listen to your friends
Please be nice to yourself and to our town and take four years off.
You did your time and many of us did time too while you were on the fence about so many things. - I cannot vote for you again--sorry
You are just a nice person who will again be over your red head!
(sadly this approach has always caused you to dig in your heels – that temper of yours)
I cannot vote Otis...
I want someone with “piss and vinegar” in their blood and rocks in their pockets.
and where that citizen is, I have no clue - I will throw the rocks for you if you are out there.
I am surprised though that there is not more Progressive modern WOMEN running (LL -- peal off that band-aid and take a chance!).
—I find that is what we need -- that is what people are talking about.
You will have my vote.

In a Monty Python spirit,
You may find also that the Opie-like redhead that you speak may just be a killer bunny.
Killer Opie
Well, it could be worse, it could be raining.
I (personally?) find her to be ok
she was not an easy teacher, she could be tough and mean.
too funny
how did you get the link like that in the post?
What happens if not all the seats are not filled?
What does that say about us?
that we do not care?
I do not think that I am qualified to run and if I know enough to help or look stupid. - Like when you say something and then realize that you really do not understand the question.
but I do hope that more people want to be on the ballot.
This is a nice town and it does have nice people.
LL = Laura I suppose?
she is no nonsense and a very good choice except for one thing.
She is not running for office.
p.s.
I agree with the "parking lots" issue.
The lots need to come out of the horse and buggy era and be paved or re-surfaced.
There is no way I would own a place on Main street if I had to park on some of those lots.
It could not cost that much to put several loads of stone fill into the budget.
That would go a long way to making the town appear more groomed.
It is the simple things that would make the biggest difference.
Re: Not running for office
Dear Sir:
In answer to that question, we once again look to the wisdom of Sir Winston Churchill when he more or less stated: The best argument against running is a five minute conversation with the average voter. Being the average voter we have held said conversation with ourselves and decided the better of it (running). Further we find stock in the words of perhaps the worst United States president ever, Ulysses Simpson Grant when he said: “It is men who wait to be selected and not those who seek, from whom we may expect the most efficient service”. Along these lines we are immediately suspect of the rationality of those who would seek Office in our humble hamlet. As surely the saner amongst us would have to be installed in office at the point of a lance.
I am your humble servant,
Amicus Publicus
PS. We would be remiss if we did not state our admiration of U.S. Grant. His consideration by some, as worst president ever, surely required much hard work, more so when one considers all the competition.
It would be interesting in an age of computers and instant responses,
if we gave everyone one vote every month for each issue that needs to be addressed at the town meeting.
Pumped or plumbed to us via CCTV (that is Closed Circuit Tele to you Yanks)
Then maybe at the stroke of a keyboard we would always be empowered to have our voices heard and in some respect we would all be in office. *(no lance needed - get the point? - sorry could not resist). As some of the chaps claim to represent us - whom better to represent us then ourselves.
I too believe that the local pubs should sponsor this as a town event as we could eat, drink and then vote -- and of course being a pedestrian oriented town - walk back to our respective homes.
I do like the fact that the town meetings are on Wing Night.
I am sure that other pubs (the shadow government one for example)
would offer their own monthly specials.
This too could save on the entertainment that is normally hired, as we all know..
the greatest entertainment in town is at Town Hall (at least once a month there is no competition)

Oh Yes,
+1 for the parking lot issue.
Just clean them up the town would look cleaner
... and I do believe we have many slots that could be made if parking made uniform.
-JQP
I know now that there will be an election, but you would think that you would see signs or something also let people know.
Why are you NOT Running for Office
revealed.
The value of not being seen is displayed in this clip that could be our Original Mayberry USA or our little corner of the Globe Port Deposit,MD
The value of not being seen
begin of wonderful Spirit on this incredible day.
I will now use a moniker that would be apropos for my view of events in the Peyton Place of the Susquehanna.
Monty Python
-and yes it could be worse it could be raining.
Interesting concept from JQP and each person getting one electronic vote at wing night. It brings back memories of Delirious 1 when a drunk Eddie Murphy voted for the Rev. Jesse Jackson for President and then woke up sober the next morning to find out everyone else got drunk and voted the same way.
Why am I not running for Public Office? My skin is too thin.
Cameras in town hall?
That would wake many up.
scaRY ALSO!
I am sure for some everyday would then be a makeup day, some days, others look pretty rough.

Whom in town would you put at the tip of a lance and say you need to run for office?
Currently, ineptness is in vogue.
Be elected without mandate but by frustrate.
I say let them all rot in office.
It seems to me, because I disagree with the lot, can you tell?
-that you would need three to poke and prod into running (of similar mind)
so that you could have a chance at something other than no chance of nothing getting done.
I venture if they all resigned.
Town government would not collapse
No
You would see a bold move of those with fresh spirit step up to the wicket and take a swing.

I heard a rumor that someone is running for Mayor as a write in candidate but no name was mentioned. Does anyone out there in blogland know who this may be?
If this were only true...
I believe in the importance of each vote.
So I have been dreading what to do.
Cannot vote for the current slate (except for Brian)
It bothers me that there are not other choices
Reason I am not running for office because there is a bunch of unappreciated back-stabbing
Bas%@&ds in town, who have no clue what it take to make this all work!
Ask anyone who has been there - no way again!
other then some who (God bless them who want to run again but)are clueless to begin with and want to make this career!
just ask Mark Tomlin what happened to him..
What Baltimore could not do to this man we did in a few short years!
Oh yes, I did this on my lynch hour!
Ok, I'll bite, Mark, exactly why did you leave Baltimore?
in case there are some real answers here.
Did we fire an employee only to hire them back as the town administrator? (years later)
more curious than anything - but it does seem rather strange - if true.

Dear Biter,
Something called retirement brought the Chief to town.
A second round in Mayberry?
ha!
Snakes seem to like granite!
Not legal to shoot them in town limits. - darn the luck!
Mark Tomlin did a lot for the town
and was a good man.
unfortunately some of his force was not as dilegent or honorable.
He will always be the Chief to many.
CA,
"Did we fire an employee only to hire them back as the town administrator? (years later)"
Yeah, that was weird but I have no clue why she was let go to begin with.
Could it be considered a crime that none of the Town council or the future Mayor bothered to show up at the Presbyterian Church annual Chili Cook-off?
You know, it is a fund raiser.
the food was good, and there was plenty of advance notice.
I agree that some may not prefer Chili or had different plans
but being a small community where you know most everyone by name
it is easy to notice those missing.
I forgive you guys.
