Hello,
I read someone’s comment on the April 14th chili-fest that many town folks either did not know about or just did not stop by to support. I did hear though that it was a success but not as many people as in past years. For me, I just did not know until the last minute and had other plans. As well the canceled Port-Fest which this year needed helpers.I was unaware of this too.
My Topic is this:
Do you think that a marquis in town celebrating the next town event may enhance turnouts?
- This is separate from the Marina Park sign which never changes -- and if you are from in town tend to ignore since you see it all the time.so that the sign either has the next town event or is open.

I love this town too,
but I am confused on what type of sign you are suggesting.
The charm of Port is by its subtle non-obtrusive signage as well as by its old-time look.
The sign at Marina Park might be converted to reflect new event or show that something new is happening.
But to have something in the middle of Town that is large enough to read as you drive by needs more explanation.
- Do not take this as a "do not agree" with you comment, more of how do you make it work.

there needs to be a better way to notify people of a lot of things in this hamlet.
The towns major zoning changes of several years was an abomination

FYI
Due to the construction at Marina Park, Port Fest 2007 will be cancelled. Port Fest will be back with a bang in 2008. Please feel free to call Lauren at Town hall with any further questions.

The sign at the South end is rather attractive, but I too find myself only reading the sign when I am standing in front of it or at a function in the park.
I believe that you can only see it one way not going southbound on the Main street highway
It has been talked about before to have nice granite borders on each side of the road at all three entrances to Port Deposit.
(that would be very attactive and unique)
Like Havre de grace or Aberdeen, Rising sun even north East whether in wood, brick or stone we are the only town that I can think of locally that does not have something like this. (Does Perryville have one?)
Bet even Harbold would donate some stone to the cause.
I would send money if the town wouldn't loose or use it somewhere else.
Didn't someone donated time and money to repair the scalehouse?
It is in the town minutes several years back. The request even went through several committees.
Approved by town council - ball dropped by town council

I looked into repairing the scalehouse a few years ago,as a volunter, hearing that clark/turner donated funds for the project, but as usual the town botched the situation as usual. Now i guess the poor old scalehouse will just rot away as it has faded away from the town goverment.Does the historical commision have anything to do with preserving the history of ol port deposit?Oh buy the way where is the donated funds, collecting intrest? Thanks for someone trying to restore some type of old town feel to port as it once WAS.
